Fit fresh batteries first. Weak batteries cause most remote faults and they imitate a broken remote: works up close but not across the room, some buttons dead, works for a few seconds then stops, or a Bluetooth remote that keeps dropping its pairing. Replace both at once, never mix old with new or alkaline with rechargeable. The cells in the box are test cells and are often nearly flat.
Then power cycle the box. Unplug it at the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. This alone fixes a lot of them.
A blinking BT remote is a low battery warning, not a fault. There is no factory reset on the remote itself.
Test an IR remote with your phone. Point the remote at your phone's front camera and hold any button. A purple or white flash means it is transmitting and the fault is elsewhere. Nothing at all, with fresh batteries in, means it has failed. This test does not work on a paired Bluetooth remote, which sends no infrared.
